MY STORY
My name is Saskia Copeland and I run Little Bunny Bakers! I am a former primary teacher with a passion for working with children and helping inspire them to cook, have fun and enjoy life! I adore teaching my daughter, to bake and she and my lovely husband Adam are my chief food testers!
I am so thrilled to be able to meet and bake with so many amazing bakers through the business. Their amazing cheer-leaders are their families who are simply wonderful human beings.
So how did it all begin?
From the moment I could hold a wooden spoon in my hand, I was in the kitchen with my mother, helping to mix, pour, create, dream. The very first Little Bunny Baker!
Like so many of us, those early memories stayed with me and shaped my relationship with food and interest in cooking for life. I passionately believe in the importance of cooking and eating together to learn healthy habits and instil a love of shared experiences from a very early age.
I baked my way through my school years and when I was 18, spent a year enjoying delicious Sri Lankan food when I spent a year there volunteering in an orphanage. With so little food they made such great feasts.
When I was studying for my degree in Psychology at both the University of Sussex and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, I was always so interested in the way that food brings people together. In Canada they celebrate special occasions by holding a 'Pot Luck' dinner. Essentially, everyone brings a dish to share! What a great way to bring strangers and friends together.
After working for an incredible charity called Free the Children in Canada after I graduated, I followed my heart into my dream career, training at the University of Cambridge to become a primary school teacher. I adore teaching and had 6 amazing years at a wonderful school in Windsor doing just that.
Along with my class teaching, I trained to become the Food Technology Teacher and Coordinator and taught cookery to the children from aged 2 to 11. I had such fun cooking and baking up so many sweet and savoury treats with the children, as well as organising a range of visits and visitors to broaden their horizons in terms of how food makes its journey from Farm to Fork, a subject that not all children have a great understanding of in todays fast paced food convenient world.
As I spent more and more time in the kitchen with the children, my dream to share my passion for teaching cookery with others grew and grew and the same words that inspired me to travel to Sri Lanka to help children when I was 18 years old came back to me...'Why not you? Why not now?'
Little Bunny Bakers is my opportunity to try my very best to help children of all ages spark and fan the cookery and baking love, to help explore fresh healthy food together and bring everyone to the table to share in a treasured and time old tradition of cooking together.
